Mr Alan Crosthwaite
MBBS FRACS (Urology)
Alan practices in general adult Urology exclusively in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne with a specialist interest on lower urinary tract dysfunction and urological reconstruction.
He graduated from the University of Melbourne and The Royal Melbourne Hospital and did most of his residency, general surgery and urology training there. He completed a fellowship in Urology at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, before returning to a VMO position at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Shortly after Alan joined with Peter Lawson to further grow the Urology unit at Box Hill Hospital and established his Urological practice with Peter at Box Hill.
His public hospital appointments have been at Box Hill, The Royal Melbourne, The Royal Women’s, Mt Royal and Fairfield Infectious Diseases hospitals. Whilst at The Royal Melbourne Alan was also a lecturer in Surgery with the Department of Surgery of the University of Melbourne.
Private hospital appointments have included Epworth Healthcare, Mercy Private, Cotham Private and Mitcham Private hospitals. Since the opening of Epworth Eastern Hospital Alan has practiced exclusively there.
Other commitments have included the training of Urological surgical trainees and, for eight years, he was an examiner for the fellowship examinations for Urology with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He has acted as Chair of the Victorian section of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand, and has been a member of the federal executive of the same Society. He has had an active role within Epworth Healthcare, being involved in the establishment of Epworth Eastern Hospital, acting as Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee. He was also the Chair of the Group Medical Advisory Committee of Epworth Healthcare and was a board member of Epworth Healthcare.
Whilst practicing general adult urology, in recent years, Alan has focused on the assessment and management of lower urinary tract disorders, voiding dysfunctions and urinary incontinence across the adult age groups. Comprehensive assessment and individualized care plans are offered with either the medical or surgical options that are now available.
