Prof Shomik Sengupta
MBBS, MS, MD, FRACS
Prof Shomik Sengupta is a Melbourne-based urologist with a uro-oncology interest. He trained under the Victorian section of the USANZ, and subsequently undertook a two-year uro-oncology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, USA. He has particular interests in prostate cancer, including open and robotic prostatectomy, as well as bladder cancer, including cystectomy with neobladder diversion.
Shomik is a Visiting consultant and Uro-Oncology lead at the Urology Department, Eastern Health, and Professor of Surgery at the Eastern Health Clinical School, Monash University. He also undertakes private consulting at Glen Waverley (main rooms), Box Hill, East Melbourne and Coburg, and operates at Epworth Freemasons & Epworth Eastern, Waverley Private and John Fawkner hospitals.
Shomik has a strong research background, having completed two higher degrees by research and with more than 100 international publications to date. He is involved in numerous clinical trials, including through the Australian and New Zealand Urogenital and Prostate Cancer Trials Group (ANZUP), where he is a Board Director and Scientific Advisory group member. Within the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand, Shomik is the leader of the GU Oncology advisory group, scientific Convenor of the 2017 ASM in Canberra and ex-chair of the Victorian committee for Training.
Shomik is also an avid Hawthorn support and enjoys time with his family, cricket and Indian drumming.
